IAN MOORE

Mr Ian Moore  – Media Advisor

Ian Moore is one of the most experienced and well-connected people in Australian media, with an incomparable list of achievements. A highly-regarded editor, Ian has made an indelible impact on the national landscape over an extensive 50- year career in which he has built up a network of contacts that is second to none.

He has taken major print titles to new heights and has been the Editor focusing on the weekend sector where he believes there is the greatest opportunity for growth and has been at the cutting edge of digital development.

Ian took over the editorship of Sydney’s The Sunday Telegraph in 1985, a paper that had languished behind its competitor, The Sun- Herald since its inception. Through a bold approach to political reporting and raising family issues to the forefront of the political agenda, Ian increased sales by more than 150,000 to take the paper to the largest circulation of any newspaper in Australia.

He was asked by Rupert Murdoch to help in the launch of two Sunday newspapers for News Corp Australia, launching the Melbourne Sunday newspaper war against Fairfax.

Ian took over the editorship of The Sunday Sun in 1991, to reposition it prior to the planned merger with the Sunday Herald to put it in an unassailable position against The Sunday Age. He then oversaw the merger and became the founding editor of the highly-successful Sunday Herald Sun. Under his stewardship, the paper went into profit at the end of its first year.

Ian was worked for all major publishers, played leading management roles in the transition to remote site printing for News, the introduction of colour processes and pagination. He provided the content strategy for the establishment of the company’s digital operations and now works as a media Consultant, with a long-standing association with News MediaWorks – the publishing industry body funded by all major groups to promote news platforms and increase market share.
